Refund Policy

Last updated: 8 August 2026

This Refund Policy applies to all paid services provided by Sorted Cars Ltd ("we", "us", "our") through sortedcars.co.uk. We comply with the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 and the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

1. Your Right to Cancel

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you have a 14-day cooling-off period from the date of purchase during which you may cancel your order and receive a full refund. You can tell us you are cancelling in any clear statement — or use our model cancellation form.

2. Digital Content Exception

Our paid services (Paid Check reports) are digital content that is generated and delivered immediately upon purchase. Under Regulation 37 of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you lose your right to cancel once digital content has been delivered, provided that:

  1. You gave your express consent to begin delivery immediately; and
  2. You acknowledged that you would lose your cancellation right once delivery began.

Both consents are captured at checkout before your payment is processed, and your receipt email confirms both back to you, with the date you agreed them. If you gave these consents and your report has been generated and delivered — that is, made available in your account, whether or not the emailed copy reaches you — you are not entitled to a refund under the cooling-off period. This applies only to the cooling-off right — see section 3 for when you are still entitled to a refund.

3. When You ARE Entitled to a Refund

You are entitled to a refund in the following circumstances — a full refund unless stated otherwise:

  • Report not delivered: If you paid for a report but it was not generated or delivered to you due to a technical error on our part.
  • Faulty digital content: If the report is materially defective (e.g., contains data for the wrong vehicle, is blank, or is corrupted). Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for any particular purpose you made known to us before you bought, and as described.
  • Duplicate purchase: If the same order was charged twice, we refund the duplicate.
  • Before delivery: If you cancel before the report has been generated, you will receive a full refund regardless of consent given.
  • Section could not be delivered: If any individual section of your report cannot be supplied by the data provider, that section's price is refunded automatically to your original payment method — you do not need to ask. This is a refund of that section only; the rest of your report is unaffected.

Every refund is confirmed by email. Whenever we refund you — automatically or on request — we email you to say how much was refunded, why, and that it has gone back to the card you paid with. You do not have to check your statement to find out.

4. When You Are NOT Entitled to a Refund

  • The report was successfully delivered and you simply changed your mind.
  • The vehicle data returned "clean" results (no finance, not stolen, etc.) — a clean report is a valid report.
  • You disagree with what a record says. Your report showed what the data source held at that moment, passed on unchanged.
  • You disagree with an estimate — a valuation, price prediction or demand indicator. These are opinions calculated from market data, not records, and a different valuer may reach a different figure.

None of the above affects your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 if the digital content we supplied was faulty, incomplete or not as described (see section 3).

5. Data Guarantee Claims

Any Experian Data Guarantee included with a full provenance report is provided under its own terms and is separate from this Refund Policy. If you believe the data was materially inaccurate, see the Data Guarantee section in our Terms & Conditions and Experian’s Data Guarantee terms; eligibility and claims are determined by Experian, not SortedCars. A Data Guarantee applies only where you bought a cover level with your full provenance report.

6. How to Request a Refund

To request a refund, please use our Contact Us form or email [email protected] and include:

  • Your name and email address used for the purchase
  • The report reference number or vehicle registration
  • The reason for your refund request

You may also use our model cancellation form if you prefer. Any clear statement telling us you want to cancel or be refunded counts — you do not have to use a particular form.

We will acknowledge your request within 5 working days.

Where you are entitled to a refund under this policy or by law (report not delivered, faulty digital content, cancellation before delivery, or a duplicate purchase), the refund is not discretionary: we will process it to your original payment method within 14 days of receiving your request, in line with the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.

For requests outside those categories (goodwill), we will review your request and let you know the outcome within 5 working days; any goodwill refund we agree is also processed within 14 days.

7. Your Statutory Rights

Nothing in this Refund Policy affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or any other applicable UK legislation.
